Dear October

Faith, or Fayfay as she loves it, recently dropped a new post. Let’s pause here for a moment. Fayfay sounds like something you’d chant in a skipping rope game. Don’t get me wrong. It’s cute in its own way but it’s also the linguistic equivalent of tripping over your own tongue. She loves it nevertheless. But you know what I do love? Her art.

Have you seen her latest art? Oh, that October throwback gem! It’s not just pretty to look at but also a reminder of that Unlocked story you read a while back. You remember it right? If not, no judgment (you still have time).

The story goes like this;

“So last month was October, which is obviously breast cancer awareness month explains why I chose the include the ribbon. It’s supposed to be pink but mine is pencil. Hope you get it. The boxing is for cancer because we are fighting like girls. Also notice the hair. It’s growing back because cancer patients lose hair as one of the side effects of chemotherapy treatment. Quite a long explanation about October. I felt like I should say it. Haha.” …

End of Quote (yes, formalities are good when discussing cancer).

Let’s break this down. First, the ribbon in pencil instead of pink. A minimalist queen clearly. Secondly, the boxing, Iconic. Who needs subtlety when you can punch cancer in the metaphorical face?

All in all, Fayfay’s post is as layered as it is inspiring. So, whether you love her name (I don’t) or just the message, take a moment to appreciate this October masterpiece. And maybe go reread Unlocked while you’re at it. Just saying.
